
Montréal Taken by Storm by Military Bands
Québec, July 26, 2010 – Montréal will vibrate to rhythm of Military bands as more than 300 musicians from Brazil, Canada, Italy and Russia invade the metropolis on August 20 and 21. Brass instruments, bagpipes, drums, balalaika and other musical instruments will animate the quays of the Old Port of Montreal and the Théâtre Maisonneuve.
Free concerts at the Montreal Classic Boat Festival
The concert will be launched to the sound of bagpipes on the quays of the Old Port of Montreal, Saturday August 21 at 2 PM. The festival-goers will enjoy a colourful musical crescendo with the gradual arrival of nearly 200 musicians. From Brazil, Canada, Italy and Russia, the musicians will deploy for an exuberant one hour presentation. In case of rain, the event will be postponed to Saturday August 22, at 2 PM. This concert is presented in association with the second edition of the Montreal Classic Boat Festival that will be held on August 20, 21 and 22.
Cossack Concert, Brazil and Canada at the Place des Arts
Widely acknowledged as Russia’s premiere Cossack dance troupe, the Russian Cossack State Dance Company triumphs with audiences around the world with daring acrobatic somersaults, jumps, breathtaking spins, splits, leaps and the famous Cossack kicks. The Troupe will offer for the first time in Québec a concert, on August 20 and 21, at the Théâtre Maisonneuve of the Place des Arts.
In the first part, la Musique du Royal 22e Régiment of Québec City and the Military Police Band of Espirito Santo from Brazil promise a dazzling opening. On program: rhythms of samba and “frevo” and a repertoire from Ricky Martin to Jean-Pierre Ferland to traditional military marches. The Banescanto choir from Brazil will also be part of the concert with nearly 30 choristers singing some pieces cappella to the colors of Brazilian samba. Representing the perfect incarnation of Brazilian rhythm, the popular singer Elba Ramalho, accompanied by her own musicians, will undoubtedly inflame the Place des Arts! In Québec City for the QCIFMB
After their stop in Montreal, the military Bands will spend the week in Québec City for the Québec City International Festival of Military Bands (QCIFMB) from August 24 to 29. The 12th edition of the Festival will enthral the young and old, music lovers and the curious with 7 participating countries and more than 800 musicians.
